"Mining Melrose" is a series of artworks that delve into the historical experiences of Black and Brown communities in the city of Melrose. This project, a collaborative endeavor with the Melrose Historical Society, came to life during Black History Month. It was during this time that the society curated a set of narratives spotlighting the history of Black individuals in the town. Intrigued, I reached out to the writer from my studio, proposing the idea of using their content as the foundation for a new collection. As a result, this body of work was born. Through the mediums of collage, assemblage, and painting, it shares the vivid stories and lived experiences of prominent community figures of color.
